The Best Insanity Workout Shoes For Women

Hi Fitness Gals this is Jane, I have high-jacked my husband’s Blog while he is at work. So when I started doing HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) like Insanity, I was using my Nike Lunar Glide Running Shoes. Soon after my knees were hurting and my feet as well. I knew it was time to find a shoe that could better handle the strenuous lateral movements that are required in Insanity.

I am a married mother with two boys. Love my boys, and as all moms know kids dont always sleep well. So I am not always able to get to the CrossFit Gym or “Box” for those early AM WODS. For those reasons I love to do home based workouts like Insanity Max 30.

What I want to share with you are my experiences with which shoes work best for Insanity and Focus T25 Workouts. First off, I am a Nike running shoe user. That being said, running shoes are not even close to the best kind of shoes that we can wear when doing lateral and plyometric style workouts. Shaun T recommends going with a shoe that does not have a ton of cushioning so as to not throw off your knees, hips and joints as a high heel to toe drop found in running shoes can throw your body off track. So many people want to wear the same kind of shoe that they run a 5k, or a marathon in to do Insanity. Ladies, this is an excuse to fill up your shoe closet! Tell your husband or whoever that it is really for your health that you need that cute new pair of kicks!

So, we know that high cushioned traditional style of running shoe is truly not great for HIIT or Focus T25 workouts. So, lets start taking a look at look at shoes that have a more “natural” heel to toe drop that promotes a healthier posture. Now, these shoes are called by some “minimalist shoes”. One thing I want to be aware of, these shoes since they promote a more natural use of your muscles, will most likely make you use your calves more. So, first time you do your Insanity workout, your calves will be Pumped!!! This is normal and not something to freak out about. Drink your pre-workout drink before you exercise to help you “DIG DEEPER”, and water during to prevent cramping.

Here are the shoes that I am using right now For CrossFit-Insanity-and Other HIIT WORKOUTS.

I wear these around the house as slippers! Ok, well I have two pairs one that I wear as slippers as until the other pair breaks down from box jumps rope climbs and general abuse. I will say that the duracage wrap around and the heel support and toe guards make this the best shoe that I have ever used for CrossFit! I have used it a couple of times for Shaun T's Max 30 and the Regular Program as well. Great lateral support and a really solid foot bed coupled with a large toe box makes this MY FAVORITE SHOE FOR ANY TYPE OF HIIT WORKOUTS!

I have tried these and my husband uses the men's model. Great grip for indoor and outdoor use. Great structural support and fantastic lateral support. Really great shoes, all of the benefits of the VivoBarefoot shoes, but again for me, the separate toe thing is just funny to me. So, if you can get over this, then by all means go for it! Highly recommended for use with people who do not need lots of arch support

Nike always makes the best looking shoes and they always fit my feet so well. However, even Nike could not do enough to dethrone my coveted Vivobarefoot. Very light and comfortable shoe. Toe box is a little snugger than I would expect from a minimalist style of shoe. But if you are a Nike gal and have to go with the cooler color patterns, then this is your ticket here. I would recommend this for use with most workout programs.

Lighter, stronger and better looking. These shoes reign supreme for all around Cross-Fit fit, feel, support and performance. Not my recommendation for T25 or Insanity, but for CrossFit this was the shoe before the 4 and 5 came out

One well built shoe. I had not wanted to wear a Reebok for many many years. However, after seeing all the athletes on TV wearing Reebok shoes for CrossFit, I decided to give them a shot. I would recommend jumping to the Version 4 or 5 but for the price the 2.0 is hard to beat.

those women on TV at the CrossFit games, I was impressed to see so many of them wearing these Reebok Shoes. Now, I know Reebok is the sponsor for the games, but nonetheless, it caused me to re think Reebok. Shoe, was heavier them the Vivo or the Vibram. But really durable and you can feel the extra stitching in the toe area for climbing ropes.

Whoa!!! Inov-8 is killing it with this shoe! Their line up of shoes is really fantastic they have shoes for all types of occasions, from hiking to cross fit and running. I like these cross trainers as they have reinforced stitching to hold up after those long Insanity workouts. They are still light so that I don't notice a clunky shoe on my foot. Low heel to toe drop so it helps promote a more natural feel for when you are lifting. Again, remember natural feel means your muscles will be working more, but that also means a better looking body!

Love my Merrell hiking boots, and I love these as well. As the long name implies, they really do hug your feet and fit like a glove. Really nice heel support system and no slippage during heavy weighted lunges. Very comfortable and the purple color is amazing!

Amazing Color selection! New Balance is doing a very nice job blending functionality and fashion. Come on Girls, still wanna look good even if we are at home in our basement working out to Shaun T and T25! Besides colors, this shoe is great, very flexible footbed which allows you to feel the ground underneath you. Have held up very well have had them for a few years.

While these Shoes will differ in their strengths and weaknesses, you will have some overlap. For X Fit you want a more minimalist style shoe and for Beachbody workouts you want a cross trainer for slightly more cushioning. Fact is your feet will differ from mine, I hope that looking at my review of the top shoes for working out will help you. Try on a couple pairs, get the fit right and then Crush it!
